Science Policy and Communication Group

Program Overview / Impact

We are a group of early career scientists dedicated to sharing our research and scientific expertise with the public and policy makers. Through our projects, we are refining effective scientific communication practices under the guidance of UC faculty and contributing to the transparency of scientific research. We strive to present fact-based information to the public grounded in primary scientific literature.

 Our Mission:

  • To provide science-based, curated information on food and agriculture to consumers, policy makers, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), journalists and other public stakeholders through outreach activities and accessible media platforms (videos, blogs, Twitter, etc.).
  • To help faculty, staff, and group members acquire science communication skills to engage in public discourse on the social, economic, biological, environmental and ethical aspects of food and agricultural technologies and policies.

How to Get Involved

We hold monthly meetings to discuss ongoing and future projects open to all those who are interested. Also, drop by our monthly Speaker Series to learn how to communicate scientific research effectively or about science communication endeavors from professionals in a variety of fields.

Check out our Facebook page for upcoming events: https://www.facebook.com/DavisSciencePolicy/ or contact our Membership Chair, Don Gibson (dongibson@ucdavis.edu) to be added to our email list.
